Happy New Year Brides! To kick of 2011 below is a DIY (do it yourself) bridesmaid gift idea. The idea came from Martha Stewart Weddings. She took a simple recyclable grocery bag and added an iron-on message. You can download her template from the web link below or you can create your own. Here is how:
1. find a fabric bag that you like
2. design a message that you like for your bags
3. print the message on iron-on transfer paper (you can find this at any craft store)
4. following the transfer paper instructions and iron on the paper to your bag

Unique Encinitas, CA Wedding Spots

While dinning at some great spots in Encinitas I found some very unique spots to have a wedding reception.

The first spot is the big yellow coffee house in Encinitas, the Pannikin. As you can see in the photos below it is a cute old house right off of the historic 101 in the heart of Encinitas. Below are some pictures of this unique spot.

The second spot that I discover was Tomiko. Tomiko is a Japanese restaurant also in the heart of Encinitas. They are positioned on the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Moonlight beach skyline. As you can see in photos below, this establishment has beautiful views to offer.

5 top wedding items you should 'splurge' on!

When it comes to planning your wedding the World is yours if you want it... with a nice price tag, of course. If you have a budget or a price range you want to stay in here are the top 5 areas you should spend your money on.

#1. Your venue. Pick a venue that is all ready "dressed up". Meaning picking a venue that has a great view of the ocean, a golf course, a downtown skyline, beautifully landscaped outdoor location or a beautifully architected building. If you find a place that has this requirement you will find that you will spend less on trying to turn a square room into a room with ambiance. Also when looking at venues look at the room itself. Look at the decor, the chairs, the furniture that the site offers with the rental of the room. The less you have to do to "dress up" the room, the better on the budget. The most expensive weddings are usually 'a la carte' weddings. Meaning paying to rent a space and then renting chairs, tables, linens, lighting, sound systems, microphones, tenting, caterers, a serving staff, a clean up staff, decorations, and decor. This all runs up a budget pretty fast.

#2. Your coordinator. You pay for what you get. You want a professional planning your day. There is a big difference between a professional and a novice wedding coordinator. Hiring a professional is like hiring an experienced conductor to orchestrate a symphony. If you have a novice they will make little mistakes that will be noticed by your guests. If you hire an experienced professional coordinator the day will flow without the slightest hiccup. Being a coordinator, we are worth every penny. Essentially we protect your investment. You will spend around $30-$100k on a wedding. We make sure that investment is protected and the day runs just as you vision.

#3. Your photographer.  Pictures last a lifetime. On the day of your wedding you will not remember every moment. The day will fly by. You need a professional, experienced photographer to capture every special moment of your big day. With the advances in technology, anyone can be a photographer. Make sure to ask and see the photographer's portfolio ask about their experience. When looking at a portfolio, picture yourself in those pictures and ask yourself, "Is this how I want to remember my wedding?". If the answer is "no", keep looking. What you see is what you will get. You should not find too much variation in their portfolio and your wedding day pics. Ask about the assistant. Make sure that they are a professional as well. You don't want 'brother Joe' taking pictures on your wedding day. You want another professional capturing a different view of each special and important event. Lastly, ask for the CD copy of all of your pictures.

#4. Your wedding Dress!  You are the bride and you should look like one. Spend a few extra and get the dress of your dreams. If you can't afford a designer dress, shop the sales. Find an 'off the rack' sale and get a dress that makes you look like a stunning, elegant, beautiful bride! Forever you will look at your wedding pictures and you should be very happy with what you get married in.

#5. Your music; DJ or Band.  If you go cheap on the band or DJ your wedding will run the chance of being destroyed. You want a professional DJ to MC well, play 'approved' music and be flexible to turn on a dime. If your guests are not paying attention or not enjoying themselves you need a DJ that will makes changes to the music to get everyone back on their feet! Make sure that you interview your DJ and see them in action. Ask them when their next wedding is and pop in to see their work first hand. Ask for references.

If you follow my blog you know that a few weeks ago I embarked on a journey to answer the question, "Can you look like a million bucks without spending a million". I had my girlfriends wedding coming up in La Jolla, Ca. I was super busy and did not have time to go shopping for a dress; I leaned on rent the runway.com to help me out. I rented a designer gown for $100. I crossed my fingers and hoped that all would be well. Throughout my journey anxiety of renting a dress subsided when I got my order confirmation, my dress in two sizes (they looked, smelt, and felt new), and the dress fit. To purchase this dress, which I would probably never wear again, is around $595. By renting the dress I only spent $100. Now that the wedding is over all I have to do is return the dress.

So, can you look like a million without spending a million... the answer, Yes! With rent the runway you can!

The Wedding Day Is Here!

Tonight is the night I slip into my rent the runway dress. It was very wrinkly from shipping so I had to do a quick steam job this morning. The dress is hanging in my doorway ready for me to slip on!

This morning I also received an e-mail reminding me to return the dress tomorrow. They provided envelope with postage and a return address. All I have to do is place the dress in the envelope and swing by the post office and drop the dress off! Sounds easy enough!

For those who follow my blog, on an earlier post I asked this question because I am attending a wedding this Saturday in La Jolla, Ca. A perfect place for a designer gown. I have not had time to go shopping so I am renting a dress from Rent the Runway.com; a picture of the dress is below. It is called the Greek Goddess Gown by Tibi. The retail price for the dress is about $595. I paid $100 to rent it for the weekend. My dress should ship today and be at my doorstep on Friday! I will keep you posted!

Destination wedding? Where to go, why to go, how to go. Destination weddings are a great way to control the guest list and to make a vacation week or weekend for your guests. If you have a number of friends you feel obligated to invite to your wedding and know that your guest list is going to be huge but your dream wedding is a small, intimate wedding; a destination wedding is a perfect solution for you. Where to go? One recommendation is Waikiki, HI. I have three hotels that I recommend. All of them are right next to each other with beachfront property and walking access to all of Waikiki.

This picture was taken from the Sheraton Hotel. The Sheraton is one of three hotels in Waikiki that I recommend. The pool makes this property unique. It has a great eternity pool. The only downside is that there is not much beach property to enjoy. If you are a pool person then this hotel is a great option for you.

The second recommendation: The Moana Surfrider Hotel. This hotel is in the heart of Waikiki. It is pretty much walking distance from everything in that area. It is a super classy and elegant historic hotel. I hear the high tea is a great event that starts at around 4pm.

When you walk into the hotel you are welcomed with the warm interior design and elegance.

The ballroom can be dressed up beautifully for any bride!

The restaurant sits overlooking the blue ocean. This is a great place for a rehearsal dinner or to relax at before all of the events begin.

The third recommendation: The Royal Hawaiian. It is also called the "pink palace". When you check-in to the hotel you are greeted with beautiful floral hawaiian leis. When you sit at the check-in desk you are given a warm wet cloth to clean your hands and a fresh fruit punch to sip. Later that evening housekeeping will put a fresh baked banana loaf in your room to welcome you. The hotel makes you feel like you are the King and Queen of your vacation!

The Royal Hawaiian is an historic landmark in Waikiki, HI. This hotel is top notch and the most expensive nightly rate of the three that I recommend. To give you an idea, Harry Winston had an event last Thursday evening for a few of their clients to preview the new fall collection. On display was a 13 carat diamond ring selling for $2.4 million.

This is a hallway in the hotel that leads to the pool and lounge area. It is beautiful and a great spot for pictures.

The ballroom has a beautiful backdrop of the crystal blue ocean. The style of this room is bold and beautiful.

In this blog I will share one of the best fashion, budget secrets ever...I think. Can you look like a million bucks without having to spend it? Here is my quest to answer this question.

In two weeks one of my very good girlfriends, Monica, is getting married. Yay! I am so happy for her. However, I have not had time to go shopping for "that" perfect dress and I can't re-wear a dress in my closet. I want something new, fashionable and classy. The wedding is outdoors, next to the beach, in classy La Jolla, CA so I defiantly have to go designer. Oh..what shall I do?

With no time so spare I resorted to the online "store", Rent the Runway. This company allows you to "shop" online for designer dresses to rent.

Here is my journey. Once I arrived to site I started shopping. I was so excited. There were three dress that I L-O-V-E-D! All are formal and fitting for my upcoming wedding. Here are pictures of them. Aren't they perfect? I thought so too. I was excited to rent them however I ran into a problem. I couldn't get all of them for the date that I needed. So, through the process of elimination I choose the purple Greek Goddess dress. What do you think?

Once I placed my order I was given the option to ship the same dress in a different size. That I love. I picked my second size, added my address information and confirmed my order. Shortly thereafter I received a confirmation that my dress will be delivered on time. Wahoo! I even had a question about the return policy and it was answered right away. So far... I would say I am impressed.

I will continue to blog about my experience, the good, the bad, the ugly and the elegant. In two weeks we will be able to clearly answer the question "Can you look like a million bucks without spending a million." Stay tuned!

L'auberge Del Mar - breathtaking Del Mar Hotel - NBC "top" pick

Tuesday morning the L'auberge Del Mar in Del Mar, CA was just named one of the "top" weekend getaway picks on the NBC Today Show!

We are so lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the world. I have not visited this hotel but when I saw the pictures not only did "stunning wedding location" pop into my head, so did "romantic honeymoon location". I could only imagine retreating to this hotel after all of the wedding festivities are complete.

If you are a San Diego local the Today Show said L'auberge Del Mar will take $100 off the nightly rate; rooms start at about $350 a night.

Chicago Wedding Weekend Review

I spent this past weekend in Chicago. What an amazing city. What an amazing city to get married in!

There was so much to see and so much to do. It is a perfect place to get married. From the great places to eat, the activities to experience, to the beautiful backdrops for pictures.

I snapped a few pictures of the brides who caught my eye of elegance. This bride is just absolutely stunning. Her dress looks like it was made just for her. I also love the variation in her bridesmaids dresses. I am seeing this more and more; the mix and match bridesmaids dresses is becoming a very popular trend. This bride pulled it off flawlessly. Notice the white flowers. Just perfect! Everything blends and pops with such ease and elegance.

This bustle is called an French Bustle. Isn't beautiful? It works so perfectly with this dress.

When I mentioned backdrops for pictures... just look at this one. I loved this brides shoes. They were silver, open toed, stilettos. She looked beautiful. Like Cinderella running to her ball.

Simple, elegant and classy is what I was looking for to show you brides how to make your tables stunning using an alternative to flowers.

I found a few breathtaking pictures on Martha Stewart Wedding's website. They are below.

What makes this centerpiece arrangement so eye catching and beautiful is the alternating height and the different styles of the clear glass candleholders. The pop of pink in the light pink candles that match the soft pink napkins is also a nice touch that pulls the whole look together.

Southern California complements the easy and classy look of sand and candles. This is a fun and appropriate look for any beach wedding or beach themed wedding.

I love this look because it is so classy. The simple touch of lace around each candle offers such a classy and elegant look to any clear hurricane. Notice in this picture that there is not a "pop" color. The lace pulls a soft, romantic feel to the table that a pop color is not needed.

Wedding Location Review

If you follow my blog you know that during the "off season" for weddings I am visiting possible wedding locations and providing reviews. The next location I visited was the infamous Las Vegas. Vegas weddings have an "all inclusive", "get her done" reputation. So, I headed East to check this out for myself and to provide a review based on my perception.

I decided to stay at a known, nice hotel so I picked The Bellagio. The Bellagio offers brides two chapels, one outside terrazza and eight different wedding packages that fit the needs of all different wedding desires.

My review. When I first entered the hotel the smell of smoke blasted over me. I am not a smoker and I would say that I am sensitive to the smell so this was not a first good impression however, I sacrificed for this review and sadly the stay did not get that much better. The line just to check in was outrageously long and when we got to the front they were out of non-smoking, king bed rooms.

Restaurants: lines, lines and longer lines. Pack food, make reservations or call for room service because if you don't you will be waiting in a long line to feast. The food was okay. I didn't find any of the restaurants more than just ordinary.

Rooms: Nice. I don't think you would be disappointed in the rooms. They were comfortable in size and they had a lot of nice amenities such as remote control drapes.

Spa: AMAZING. If you elect to use the spa services you will be pleased. There are four hot/cold tubs and a very relaxing atmosphere.

Customer Service: Poor. Expect a long line for the, concierge, bell desk, and/or the front desk. We had a few issues with our stay and had to wait in almost all of these lines to get things straightened out.

Wedding Location Review

Wedding season is officially over! So sad :( However, I am keeping my self busy during this "down time" visiting possible wedding locations for Brides. Some of these locations could be considered destination wedding locations.

The first place I visited was Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa. This resort is nestled in the mountains of San Bernardino, CA which is about 3 hours North from San Diego County.

I had heard of these mountains and wanted to check them out for myself. I was looking for a location that was cozy, rustic and scenic. What I found was exactly that. Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa is an amazing location if you are looking for an intimate, "destination" location.

The weekend I visited, this winter, we received a bit of snow which transformed the resort to a winter wonderland. The pictures are below. When I talked to the "locals" they made the summer sound just as amazing.

I would recommend this location not only for the scenic ambiance and romantic feel this resort offers but also for their customer service. The resort staff always went out of their way to make sure our stay was amazing and I am confident that you would have this same experience during your wedding and the events leading up to it.

This is a picture inside of the Resort. Behind this wine wall as an intimate dinning space perfect for a rehearsal dinner or small wedding reception.

This is a picture of the stairs leading to the spa and workout facility. I could see some great wedding day pictures on these stairs.

This pictures was taken in the "formal" reception room. I wanted to capture a picture of the view. The outside of the room has its own patio that has a great view of the lake.
